Jaundice (JAWN-dis): A condition in which the skin and the whites of the eyes become yellow and the urine darkens. Jaundice occurs when the liver is not working properly or when a bile duct is blocked.
JWCI Auxillary: In 1983, two breast cancer survivors, Noreen Nelson and Sandy Cohen, started an auxiliary of volunteers to help raise funds for the John Wayne Cancer Institute. It started with 14 members and now has more than 800, with a board of 42. The Auxiliary has raised more than $10 million since its inception. It has two annual events, the Membership Luncheon in the fall and the Odyssey Ball each spring.
